Anything from 2 to 10. Each slide is cut to 1080×1350 px, a 4:5 portrait, and the slides meet edge to edge with no gap or overlap.

Pro tips
- Start from the largest copy you have: an image under 1350 px tall is scaled up and can look soft.
- Keep faces and text clear of the cut lines between slides.
- Match the slide count to the picture's shape; the closer the fit, the less is cropped.
- A panorama three times as wide as it is tall suits 4 slides, losing about 6% of its height.
- Add the slides to Instagram in number order, starting with slide 1.
- Give every slide the same filter, or none, so the joins still match.
- Step through the preview with its arrows or dots before you download, to see where each cut falls.
- For a before-and-after, place the two shots side by side and split into 2 slides.

How do I make a seamless carousel?
Add your image, choose between 2 and 10 slides and press the split button. Check the preview, download the slides, then post them to Instagram in number order. Every slide is already 1080×1350 px, so there is nothing to resize.
How many slides should I use?
Let the picture decide. Each slide adds 1080 px of width at 1350 px tall, so 2 slides make a 2160×1350 canvas, 3 make 3240×1350, and so on. The count whose canvas is closest in shape to your image crops the least: two 4:5 photos side by side fit 2 exactly, and a panorama three times as wide as it is tall fits 4. The tool goes up to 10.
Is it actually free?

What size should my image be?
Any size will do. The image is scaled to cover the whole canvas and centered, and whatever overhangs the edges is cropped. To have nothing cropped, match the canvas shape: 1080 px wide per slide by 1350 px tall, so 2160×1350 for 2 slides, 3240×1350 for 3, up to 10800×1350 for 10. A bigger image of the same shape works just as well.
Does Instagram compress the slides?
It may. What Instagram does after upload is up to Instagram, but the file you give it is up to us: every slide is saved as a JPEG at 95% quality, at the full 1080×1350.
Can I check the slides before I download them?
Yes. Once the image is split, a preview shows one slide at a time, with arrows and dots to step between them, much as a follower swipes through. The slides in the preview are the same JPEG files you download.
How do I get the slides onto Instagram as a carousel?
Download the slides, then start a new post in Instagram and choose to select multiple photos. Tap them in number order, beginning with slide 1. Keep each one at its full portrait shape rather than cropping it, use the same filter on all of them (or none), and share.
Which image formats can I use?
JPG, PNG and WebP, up to 10 MB. The slides always come out as JPEGs, and JPEG has no transparency, so any see-through areas of a PNG or WebP turn black.
Can I save a single slide?
Yes. Download them all in one ZIP, or click a slide in the preview to save just that one. Each file is named for its place in the order, starting at carousel-slide-1.jpg, so the sequence travels with the files.
Why post a carousel rather than one photo?
Instagram's documented range for a single feed photo runs from 4:5 portrait to 1.91:1 landscape, so a much wider picture cannot be shown whole as one photo. Split across slides, every part of it is shown at full portrait size and people swipe along to see the rest. Carousels also suit anything with an order: a before-and-after, a set of steps, a panorama.
Can I use it on a phone?
Yes. It is a web page, so there is nothing to install: open it in your phone's browser, pick an image, split it and download the slides. The layout adapts to a small screen.
