    A profile there means the name is taken. If TikTok says it couldn't find this account, the name is probably free, though only TikTok can confirm that when you go to use it.

  • Keep it short: every extra character is one more chance to mistype you.
  • Skip random numbers; unless they mean something, they mostly say the good version was taken.
  • Start from a name people already know, like your brand or the nickname friends use.
  • Look for existing trademarks before you build an audience on the name.
  • Hint at what you post, so a stranger can guess what they'll get before they tap.
  • Say it out loud; if you'd have to spell it for someone, keep looking.
  • Try typing it on a phone keyboard, because that's where people will be searching for you.

How do I use this TikTok username checker?

Type the name you want, press Check username, then press Open the profile on TikTok. The tool doesn't ask TikTok anything itself: it builds the profile link and opens it in a new tab, and you read the answer off what TikTok shows. A profile means the name is taken; if TikTok says it couldn't find the account, the name is probably free.

Does it cost anything?

No. It's free, there's nothing to sign up for, and there's no limit on how many names you check. The tool builds the link in your browser, so there's nothing on our side to count.

How far can I trust the result?

A profile at the link is proof the name is taken. No profile is a strong hint, not a guarantee: TikTok's help center says a username someone gives up can't be added to any account for a short while, so a name can be unclaimed and still unavailable. The final word is TikTok's, when you try to use the name. And if TikTok doesn't load where you are, the link can't tell you either way.

How many characters can a TikTok username have?

Up to 24, the figure TikTok is usually quoted as allowing; this tool accepts 2 to 24 characters and stops you at 24. As for which characters, TikTok's help center allows letters, numbers, underscores and periods, and says a period can't go at the end. Anything else is dropped as you type, and a period at the end is flagged under the box.

What can I do if the name I want is taken?

Try a variation. The tool suggests up to four: your name with the current year, “_official” or “.tv” on the end, or with “the.” in front, leaving out any that would go past 24 characters. Click one to check it at once, or use them as a starting point for your own.

Can I check several names one after another?

Yes. It checks one name at a time, but each profile opens in its own tab and this page stays as it was, so you can change the name, check again and compare the tabs. Clicking a suggestion checks it in one step.

What makes a TikTok username good?

It's short, easy to say and easy to spell, and it hints at what you post. Someone who sees it once should be able to type it from memory later. Keeping underscores and periods to a minimum helps with that, and so does using the same name on your other accounts.

Is it any different for a business account?

No. The link the tool builds depends only on the username, so the check works the same for a business account as for a personal or creator one.

How are TikTok usernames different from Instagram's?

Same characters, different limits. Both allow letters, numbers, underscores and periods, but this checker stops at 24 characters where our Instagram handle checker goes to 30, and TikTok's help center adds a rule Instagram's doesn't publish: no period at the end. Can I hold on to a username for later?

Not with this tool: it opens a link and nothing more. A name only becomes yours once it's set on your account, so if it looks free, claim it straight away, either by signing up with it or by changing your current username to it.
