Pro tips

  • Borrow an opener people already know, like “Unpopular opinion:” or “Day 12 of…”, and let the format do some of the work.
  • Keep it short. The generator stops at 150 characters, and that's on purpose.
  • Sound like yourself. If a line reads like someone else wrote it, edit it until it doesn't.
  • Hashtags are on you: the generator is told to leave them out, so add a few that describe the video.
  • Run the same topic through two or three tones before you settle on one.
  • End with something to do: answer a question, follow for part 2, save it for later.
  • Use slang only if you'd say it out loud. If you would, there's a Very online tone for that.
  • Put the interesting part first. The opening few words have to earn the rest of the line.
  • Ask a question people can answer in a word or two.

What does this AI caption generator actually do?

You describe the video (up to 200 characters), choose a tone and, if you like, an audience. That goes to an AI model with a short set of rules: one caption, no hashtags, no preamble, under 150 characters. The answer is checked before you see it. Anything too long is trimmed to fit, and anything that is just the same word on repeat is thrown out.

Is the caption generator really free?

Yes. There's no account to create and no card to enter, and you can make up to 20 captions an hour. The hourly limit exists because every caption is a paid call to an AI model on our side.

What does a good TikTok caption do?

It gets to the point. The first few words have to earn the rest, so lead with the interesting part, write the way you'd actually say it, and give people a reason to reply: a question, a strong opinion, a cliffhanger.

Can I change how the caption sounds?

Yes. There are 12 tones, including Casual, Funny, Very online, Storytelling, Professional and Hot take. The optional audience field (up to 100 characters) steers it further: a caption for “first-time home buyers” should come out differently from one for “college students”.

Does it write hashtags too?

No. It's told to leave them out, so what comes back is the caption on its own. Add your hashtags afterwards, and pick ones that describe the video rather than whatever happens to be popular.

What's a good length for a TikTok caption?

Short enough to take in at a glance. This generator stops at 150 characters: it asks the model for less and trims anything that runs over. TikTok itself allows far longer captions, and our character limits guide has the exact figure, but a limit is a ceiling, not a target.

Does it work for a business account?

Yes. It never connects to TikTok, so it doesn't know or care what kind of account you post from. Professional suits product and service posts; Casual or Storytelling fits behind-the-scenes clips. What if the caption isn't right?

Press “Generate another caption” to try again with the same topic and tone; it will usually say something different. For a bigger change, switch the tone or add detail to the topic. Each attempt counts toward your 20 an hour.

Will it work for my kind of video?

It writes from whatever you describe: a recipe, a product demo, a workout, a day in your life. The topic box takes up to 200 characters, and the more specific you are, the less generic the caption tends to be.

How do I know how many captions I have left?

There's no counter on screen. You can make 20 captions an hour and no more than five a minute, counted per internet address, so people sharing a network can end up sharing the allowance. The hour starts at your first try. Run out and the generator tells you so; once the hour is up, you have a fresh 20.
